Varicose vein treatments can be covered by insurance if the symptoms interfere with normal daily activities (including exercise). Treatments for severe vein disease (skin ulcers and/or bleeding) are almost always covered by insurance.
There are (3) main requirements for insurance coverage of laser treatments and/or sclerotherapy:
1. Physician documentation of symptoms and physical findings
2. Ultrasound exam confirming the presence of vein disease (valve dysfunction)
3. A 90 day trial of medical grade compression stocking use with no relief of symptoms (doctor’s note or receipt of compression stocking purchase)
